Obituary of Leyla Baran-Khan
Leyla Baran-Khan, 84, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully leaving behind a legacy of laughter, resilience, and deep devotion. Born in Ankara, Turkey, she was the cherished daughter of the late Sami and Cavidan Baran.
Leyla’s life was defined by a boundless love for her two sons, who were her greatest light and joy. Her professional life as a travel agent was not just a career, but a bridge to the most enduring chapter of her life. It was through her work that she met her soulmate, Atiq Khan. Their 40-year union was a beautiful testament to partnership and unwavering devotion; they were rarely seen apart until his passing in 2021.
Outside of her career, Leyla was a woman of vibrant passions. She possessed an amazing sense of humor that could brighten the darkest room and kept everyone around her laughing. She found peace in nature, spending countless hours tending to her beloved plants and garden and her much loved cooking. Though she built a beautiful life in Canada, she traveled back to her roots in Turkey, a place she visited frequently and held dear.
Leyla is now peacefully reunited with her beloved husband, Atiq, and her dear sister Sema who preceded her in death. She is survived by her devoted children, Tunc Camlioglu and Dr. Burc Camlioglu; her daughters-in-law, Andrea Clark and Marie Morisset; and her cherished grandchildren, Brooke, Xavier, and Olivia. She also leaves behind a large community of friends who will miss her dearly.
Her laughter and love will live on forever in the hearts of all who knew her.
A celebration of Leyla’s life will be held at Pinecrest Remembrance Services 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, on Saturday March 7th, 2026 between 10 am and 12pm.
