Obituary of Margaret Hyde (nee Hannams)
Margaret Hyde (nee Hannams) passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on 12 February 2017. She leaves behind Charles, her loving husband of 69 years, daughter Catherine (Anton), son Thomas (Erna), six grandchildren – Natasha & Chelsea, Andrew (Maylee), Krista (Johan), Robert (Meredith) & Richard – and eight great grandchildren. She was devoted to and immensely proud of her family.
Margaret was born in Croydon, England. When her father passed away the result of injuries sustained in the trenches of WWI, she and her mother joined family who had already emigrated to northern Ontario. She grew up in Fort William, eventually moving to southern Ontario where she supported her husband’s studies at the Ontario Agricultural College. His career as a secondary school teacher took them to the Ottawa valley, back to southern Ontario and finally to retirement in Owen Sound where they became avid lawn bowlers and spent many hours in their gardens. Wherever their home, Margaret was an active member of the UCW and spent many hours volunteering in local hospital auxiliaries and the Canadian Cancer Society.
For Margaret, family always came first. She was an excellent cook & seamstress and had an amazing imagination for arts & crafts. She loved to read to her children and grandchildren and was unfailingly supportive in the life decisions we made.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel, 2500 Baseline Road on Saturday 18 February at 2;30 p.m. followed by a reception at Windsor Park Retirement Home, 990 Hunt Club Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bruyère Foundation.
