Obituary of Nicola Frate
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nicola “Big Nick” on November 11th, 2022 at the Queensway Carleton Hospital at the age of 87 with loving family by his side. Born in Montalto (Rionero Sannitico) Italy and moved to Ottawa, Canada in the 1950’s. Beloved husband of 63 years to Anna Frate (Ianiro). Nicola was predeceased by his parents Ernesto Frate, Sarafina Marotta and siblings Remo “Mario” (Lucia) and Maria “Orienta” (Liberato). Survived by his siblings Ermelinda (Damiano) and Valentino (Graziella) and their respective families.
He was the treasured father of Gabriella (Daniel), Peter (Antonella), Patrizia (John), Enzo (Karen) and Daniele (Andrea). The loved Nonno of Nicolas, Michael (Amanda), Patrick (Alexandra), Bryan (Courtney), Sarah, Bobby, Madison, Eden, Bianca, Joey and Great Nonno to Kolton, Scarlett and Olivia.
Well respected, dedicated and retired as a General Carpenter. As well as being a long time volunteer and Treasurer of the Gruppo Anziani Italo-Canadese d’Ottawa.
He will be remembered affectionately by all of his extended family and friends from Canada, Italy, United States and around the world.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, November 20, 2022 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa, ON. A Memorial Service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Pinecrest Remembrance Chapel. Donations in lieu of flowers in memory of Nicola can be directed towards Diabetes Canada (Ottawa), Kidney Foundation of Canada (Ottawa), or University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
