Obituary of Russ McCallum
George Russell McCallum died peacefully at the age of 80 following a long illness.
Loving father of Robyn and Andrew and devoted father-in-law of Renée. Proud grandfather of Katherine and Thomas. He also leaves behind family across Canada, including Ross and Sheila England of Calgary and Paul Rideout of Fredericton.
In 2021 he lost his beloved wife of nearly 43 years, Anne (née Rideout). He was also predeceased by his father Jock, his mother Jean (née Lovell), his sister Peggy, and his brother-in-law Gordon Mersereau.
Russ spent his life serving his family and his community. He retired from the federal public service after 27 years in 1992 to care for his mother and children. He was a past president of the City View Community Association and the City View Tennis Club. In various seasons of life he was an active member of Scouts Canada, the St James Tennis Club, Knights of Columbus Council 12296, and other organizations.
Russ was known for his sense of humour. He enjoyed chatting and joking with friends, neighbours, and strangers on his walks around City View, at church, at the grocery store, at Tim Hortons, and at various hospitals and doctors offices.
He was a curler, a tennis player, an avid reader of books on hockey and Canadian history, a lover of unruly dogs, and a connoisseur of egg salad sandwiches.
Thanks to the staff at Symphony Senior Living in Kanata for their care and compassion.
