Obituary of Mary Smyth
Mary (May) Smyth
May 29, 1943 – December 10, 2022
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a dear wife, mother and grandma. May passed away peacefully at Queensway-Carleton Hospital on Saturday, December 10, 2022, at the age of 79 years.
Cherished wife of Jim for over 51 years. Loving mom to Julie and Graeme and his wife Anna. She will be sadly missed by her grandchildren Lauren and Byron Smyth. Dear sister-in-law to Margaret (Billy) Smyth of Belfast, Northern Ireland. Predeceased by her brother Archie McArthur and sister Margaret Ross, both of Scotland. Fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends in Scotland, Northern Ireland and Canada.
May was born in Muirkirk, Scotland on May 29, 1943 to Duncan and Martha (Rae) McArthur. She and Jim married on March 11, 1971 and started their life together which would take them from Scotland to Northern Ireland before immigrating to Canada on December 27, 1979
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, December 15th, 2022, from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pinecrest Remembrance Centre, 2500 Baseline Road.
May received such special care from whom she referred to as her BFFs, Dr. Qasim Alikhan her respiratory specialist and Dr. Yiming Wei.
Special thanks to the ICU at Queenway-Carleton Hospital for the care they gave May, especially Dr. Iyengar and nurses Kristen and Makaela.
For those wishing, donations in May’s memory may be made to the Queensway-Carleton Hospital Foundation.
May the road rise to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back;
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
May the rains fall softly upon your fields.
Until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand
