Phil was my M.Sc. and Ph.D. advisor from 1995-2003, and he was not just patient, but inspirational. The other students in our gang (Tracy and Mike) let me know that he was ailing and that one of his sons was reading emails to him, but unfortunately I sent mine a bit too late. I appreciate the effort though, and would like his sons to know how often he would proudly tell me of their latest activities. He will be missed.

I met Dr. Kronberg as a new postdoc in Statistics (2003) at Los Alamos. He was a mentor and a colleague, and I valued and cherished every minute spent with him. One of my favorite memories is of a road trip to the VLA outside Socorro, where he gave a behind-the-scenes tour, showing me the control room, the giant shed where dishes were sent for maintenance, and the big red "High Plains Lifter" truck used to reposition the dishes. And the stories he had to tell about the construction of the array! I'll always miss you, Phil.

Dr. Kronberg was my graduate school supervisor in Toronto (1973-1979). He was always very engaged, even when he was away, which was often. On my first trip to Germany at the start of my PhD program, he rented a car for me and my husband (we were not yet 25) so we could have a European vacation. He was so generous and open minded. After my PhD I transitioned from radio astronomy to semiconductors, so we lost touch for a while, but I owe all the success I had in my career to the training received from Phil during these formative years. We always kept in touch with Christmas cards. I'm happy that we reconnected these last 10 years or so with his frequent visits to Ottawa including stays at our house. I will remember him as a mentor and as a friend.

Dr. Philipp P. (Phil) Kronberg died recently. Phil was my graduate school supervisor in Toronto (1983-1990). It is probably fair to say that my odd career in radio astronomy computing is owed to the environment he was able to provide (e.g., besides being an established radio astronomer he was at the vanguard of several trends in scientific computing which got me in on the ground floor of those technologies). He was also always very generous with me. When I started graduate school at 21 with no money and a family on the way he gave us a crib and other baby supplies. When we traveled together, he referred to me as his "colleague" rather than his "student." RIP Phil.
