I am saddened to learn of the untimely and sudden passing of Greg. I was fortunate to know Greg during our respective postings to Warsaw. I still recall his unyielding competitiveness most Saturday mornings on the squash court no matter what time we left the bar the night before. There were no golf courses in Poland at that time but there was the brutal Canadian embassy ice hockey games in winter that Greg convinced me, an unsuspecting Australian, to play - to make up the numbers. I still recall him telling me “you will fine”. Fortunately for my recovery time the games were only once a month. I also recall the regular catch ups at our homes, club and family weekends at a medieval castle and stately country home in a Poland embracing democracy. And the somewhat dubious raft ride on the Dunajec river. His short lived jubilation when he thought he had won the major raffle prize at the annual Canadian embassy Terry Fox Ball only to then realise it was another Greg - me who had taken the prize. Most of all I recall (and valued) his friendship and the fun times we shared. As is the unfortunate nature of the nomadic lifestyle of overseas service where friendships are challenged by the four corners of the globe, I was not fortunate to meet up with Greg again in person.
I know he will be sadly missed by his family and all those who knew him. My heart felt condolences to Lee, Meaghan, Jason and families.

I was shocked to hear about Greg has passed away, I remember him when he was living in Lachine on the Air Force Base. He offered me a part-time job in the canteen as a 'soda jerk' for the Summer when I was in High school. I enjoyed my time there especially when the little kids would come in and ask for a ice cream for 0.05 cents. I would give them a double scoope until Greg. caught me one day and I got in trouble for giving them too much. LOL. Greg is my half-brother along with his Brothers John, Jim and Joe. We shared our Mother Audrey. We didn't spend a lot of time together as he was stationed overseas. When they were living in PEI I visited them for 2 weeks vacation. All of the Brothers used to do things that their Mom would send her into a yelling fit calling for Tom to tell the boys to stop teasing her when they would go shopping and they used to go behind her and put articles in her basket...I also baby sat the boys while they were stationed in Lachine...They were so naughty, I refused to baby sit them anymore..Greg visited our family in Lachine and stayed 2 weeks. I had 3 active children, I asked him to take the kids to the park to give me a break, he needed instructions as to watch out for them to keep them safe..We enjoyed his stay with us, but happy when he went back home. (he was a teenager then) My heart goes out to his wife Lee and their family. Greg was so proud of them all, especially when he had his Grandaughter...He was a golfer which was his other love.. I am sorry that we didn't get to spend much time with him and his family, we made plans but there was alway's something that came up and never got to carry out our plans. I was fortunate to have Greg as my first overseas MCO boss. I would echo much of what Ron said in terms of his attributes as a boss. His sense of humour was a great gift and lightened stressful times. My condolences to Lee and the family.

Dear Lee, Meaghan and Kabir, Jason and Suki. Mae and I are sending our heartfelt condolences to you at the passing of Greg. He loved you guys and the grandkids so completely, it was truly inspirational. He would send me photos of you all often and he really looked forward to time with Lionel, Malcolm, Malee and Dao as well as your family get togethers. In addition to a loving husband, father and grandfather, Greg was a wonderful boss and a great friend. We were together on four postings and I never worked with anyone who displayed professionalism, competence, concern and kindness as well as Greg. In my estimation, he was the complete Admin Officer package and DFAIT was lucky to have him. It was also my good fortune to have worked with and for him and he taught me a great deal. He also had a great sense of humour and if you know Greg, that was a huge part of who he was. He loved to laugh and make others laugh. I know you guys have tons of wonderful memories which should eventually keep you all smiling whenever you think of him. We are very sad now as well but when Mae and I remember Greg we will do so with huge smiles. I will miss you my friend. Love you, man!

Marilyn and I were very sad to learn of Greg’s passing. We were posted together with Lee and Greg to Manila in 2000. Greg was an outstanding Director of Administration in Manila. He cared deeply about the well being of all at the Embassy and worked very hard to provide superb service and advice. He was particularly dedicated to Consular services offered to Canadians in the Philippines and he and I worked most diligently together following the kidnapping of a Canadian in the south of the country. The Canadian fortunately was eventually freed from his captives. Greg loved golfing and he was very instrumental in organizing a most successful Canada/Philippines Golf Tournament contributing to bringing Canadians and Filipinos closer together. I much enjoyed trying to compete with him on the golf course. He was a very good man and he will be missed. Sincere condolences to Lee and family. Robert & Marilyn Collette
