Obituary of Peter John Christian Wurtele

WURTELE, Peter John Christian

June 17, 1946 – May 14, 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce Peter Wurtele passed away peacefully, with loved ones by his side, on Tuesday May 14, 2024. Throughout his chronic battle with COPD, he always faced life's challenges with courage and a smile.

Originally from Ottawa, Peter travelled the world as a proud member of the Canadian Armed Forces for 28 years. He was a generous, thoughtful man who always put the needs of his friends and family above all else. Whether on the job or at the card table, Peter’s sense of humour lifted hearts and brought people together. Peter will always be remembered for his love of card games, sports, movies, history, road trips, and Tim Hortons coffee.

He is survived by his companion Jeannine, his sons Daniel (Deborah) and Matthew, his daughter Sara (Ryan), his grandsons Steven and Tristan, his brother Paul, and a host of friends from all chapters of his life who mourn his loss deeply. He is predeceased by his partner Elizabeth Craig, and parents John and Lois (née Byrne).

Friends are invited to pay their respects at Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, on Friday, June 28 from 12 pm until time of service in the Chapel on Friday at 1 pm.    

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Stephen Chesine for many years of special care as well as to Carefor for their compassionate palliative care services.
