Obituary of Laurie Powell

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurie Elizabeth Powell on Wednesday, May 22, 2024 at age 67. She was the beloved daughter of the late Gord & Betty Powell; she will be deeply missed by Bruce Summers, the love of her life for more than 52 years and her siblings the late John Powell (Sharon Malloy), Linda Giekes (the late Ralph Giekes), Debra Brannen (Paul Brannen), Stephen Powell (Grace Cascardo), David Powell, Cindy Powell (Cook).  She was blessed to have 13 beautiful, caring Nieces & Nephews and 13 adorable Great Nieces & Nephews. She will also be missed by her extended family members and close friends. 

Originally from Whitehorse, Yukon, Laurie had a long and fulfilling career as a Manager at Bell Canada in Ottawa and retired after 30 years of service. She brought love, kindness and laughter to the lives of all of those fortunate enough to know her. Often described as being the 'heart of the family', Laurie took great pride in creating an environment of love and support.

While we mourn her loss, we find great solace in knowing she is reunited with her cherished family members watching over all of us.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 1, 2024 at Pinecrest Visitation Centre, 2500 Baseline Road, Ottawa. Donations to the Ottawa Heart Institute or Canadian Cancer Society are appreciated. Online condolences may be made at colefuneralservices.com.
