Sharon, Jen and Tracey, so sorry to hear of your loss. I was unaware of Rod's health struggles prior to you leaving our neighborhood and afterward. He was always very kind and had a great smile. I'm sure his absence is devastating but know that he is always with you - just watch for signs in nature that let you know he is near. My deepest condolences.

It is with a heavy heart that I am offering you Sharon and your family my sincere condolences.
I have found memories of Rod when Jennifer and my daughter Alexandra took dancing classes together and attended each other's birthday parties. Alex named Rod a " cuddly bear" back then!
Take comfort in having known such a gentle giant.

We shared many common interests including his love of boating and his place up at Black Donald Lake, which is close to where I live.. a wonderful wit and an inciteful intellect. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and had the pleasure of working with him at NRC. Condolences to the family.

I had the privilege of working with Rod at the NRC over the past 6 six years. In every instance, it was a pleasure to meet with such an upbeat, intelligent and kind person. He was truly a happy soul, and will be missed. My condolences to his family and friends.

Rod was a wonderful friend and schoolmate from Victoria Public School and Belle River District High School. I enjoyed catching up with him at our high school reunions as recently as October 2023 in Belle River. I will miss him dearly.

We had such great memories when the whole Patterson family came to Halifax for Tracey's Dalhousie convocation. He was such a joy to be around and lit up the whole room with his energy and laughter. I fondly recall attending Rod's 5th Birthday party. There weren't many kids in the neighborhood. High school in Belle River was an amazing time. Through a mutual friend, Bill Ashton, of Puce, I met my wife. I had the pleasure of helping Rod build his Holiday Juice business in Ottawa. We enjoyed keeping in touch over the years. The 50th birthday party was a gas and the 60th at the lake a blast. I was so much looking forward to the 70th. Rod, you have left too soon.

Since Grade One at Vcitoria Public School Rod & a group of 7 or 8 of us kids all hung out together. Exploring the farm fields surrounding Tecumseh. We were in Cubs & Scouts together and took swimming lessons together. Rod was part of the glue that kept all our hearts together even after 60 years of absence. He was one of the funniest kids in our group. And definitely one of the kindness souls I have ever met.
My condolences & heart felt thoughts go out to Rod's Family & many friends.

Dear Rod,
You were the leader of our north American sales office at Nexus Telecom Switzerland. On the journey we learned to trust each other and despite being your boss we became friends. We shared many values like being optimistic about the future, trust and honesty among others. Please forgive me if I am getting long but I want to share this little story with your family and all your friends because it tells so much about you and how it could be to share an evening with you.
One day during one of my visits to our office in Ottawa you invited me for dinner at your home and you introduced me to your wife Sharon. Sharon had prepared a beautiful dinner and we talked about many things. One of them was your dog and the fact that he was deaf. I asked what happened and the answer was that you don't know. You had been at the vet and they couldn't help and that it is getting worse over time. After a wile dinner came to an end and as I had hoped for you announced proudly to now show me your kingdom in the house. Of course the kingdom of Sharon consisted of all the rooms above the ground. But your kingdom was the basement underground ! And in your kingdom you would introduce me finally to the kings jewellery, which among other things was a wooden bar with several fine old scotch whiskey (no need to say single malt). Once the single malt had prepared our brain enough you would explain to me an other piece of Rod's jewellery: The home cinema ! I remember this gigantic Sub Woofer stareing at me. More over you said that there is of course only one movie which could really exploit the mega capacity of the loudspeakers and bring out the best sound experience of your home cinema: The II WW Pacific Ocean Sea Battle where the American Destroyer were hunting the Japanese submarines. Rod and I were equally fascinated by those movies bringing you so close to the real experience of war. Brave from the Single Malt the Volume was turned up to match reality ! Every time one of the water bombs dropped by the American Destroyer exploded, the house of Rod and Sharon was shaken literally from the ground !! Not long it took we got a visit from the kingdom above. Sharon in possibly the nicest way a wife can do made some remarks about neighbours and the two of us looked like innocent boys being caught. Temporarily the volume was adjusted and Sharon left again, but from her face expression it was clear that she couldn't trust the boys. Very soon the next water bomb exploded when I looked down at the sub woofer, there he was, the dog of Rod Paterson, laying down beside the sub woofer, like a soldier at the last stand , beside his lord, following him if necessary into death, however painful the noise must have been for him. ¨Rod!¨ I exclaimed, ¨now I know why the dog is deaf!¨ Man, you should have seen his face and the laughing we shared even years later remembering our night in the basement, fighting the Pacific war with a glass of scotch in our hand, his best friend faithfully on his side.
Rod Paterson you are deeply missed by many. As we often said: you are a good man ! Of course I can trust that you are in a good place and that you watch over us especially over your family. I even could feel you laugh when I wrote down my memory. I want to thank you for all the time we could share together. I am sorry that we couldn't meet in May. But I know we will meet again one day. God bless you Rod !

Rod Patterson! Good grief, how can you be gone?
I was lucky enough to have worked and travelled with Rod at Nexus Telecom for many, many years. Switzerland, Vegas, California and Mexico - we had some grand times and laughs. Rod was a gem as a manager and mentor and he brought fun and enthusiasm to our office work world with his easy smile and cheerful demeanor. Outside of work he was immensely proud and loving of his daughters and wife.
He is missed. My deepest sympathies to Sharon, Jen and Tracey.

My deepest condolences to Rod’s family. Rod was a good friend and colleague at NRC. I was always impressed by his positive outlook and his business skills. He was always easy to talk to and we had many interesting conversations, often talking about our families. One of my fond memories of Rod was a summer day when he invited the management team at NRC-Sussex to his cottage (under construction at the time) and we spent a glorious afternoon on his boat. Another great memory was at a 2-day strategic planning retreat: during the evening, Rod shared a bottle of top shelf single-malt scotch that was amazing. I admired Rod for his kindness with others, his humor and especially his determination and courage as he fought with lymphoma. I will miss him.

I had the pleasure of working with Rod both at Nexus and NRC. Over the years, we traveled to many places together and this afforded me the opportunity to get to really get to know Rod. His optimism and glass-half-full perspective on life was contagious. He lit up every room he walked into with positive energy. He was a consummate professional and a great leader. . His love and administration for his girls always came first. His vibrant smile will be missed my many and his joyful expressions will not be soon forgotten.

I first met Rod during his interview at NRC. He impressed me from that moment on with his love of life and "can do" positive attitude. Over the years I spent a fair bit of time in his office discussing all sorts of topics from his love of Hawaii, to his new home project in Calabogie (we even had on "off-site" in the trailer there), to challenges faced personally and on the business front. Might have even had an after-hours scotch on occasion...
Rod was one of those rare folks who was always fun to be around. He tackled everything with enthusiasm and vigour. People mattered a great deal to him. His sense of humour was infectious and complemented his astute business sense. I don't recall him being in anything but good humour, even when diagnosed with cancer. He's an example to all of us on how to live life positively and to the fullest.
He spoke often of Sharon (his best friend for sure), daughters and family. My most sincere condolences to all of you. I will very much miss him.

I’ve had the privilege to have met and work with Rod at the NRC. Rod had such a beautiful soul and spirit with a calm demeanor to him. He was always smiling, joyful, and upbeat no matter the battle. Roddy Roddy Paterson—a true legend whose presence will be profoundly missed. His visits to DAL were always a highlight, whether we were enjoying a night at The Crow or savoring a delicious steak dinner. Roddy had a way of attracting a loyal following, especially among the Da girls, who were always right by his side. It’s safe to say that we experienced more memorable nights—and perhaps a few ejections from venues—when he was with us than when he wasn’t. His spirit and charisma will forever remain in our hearts.
